Generally, we provide training for our clients, rather than public courses. Often following our involvement in the development of safety management systems, it is natural for us to train in those systems for all staff and managers. We therefore develop a given course for the client, based on their own systems, after which the presentation created is owned by the client.
Recent training courses include:
- Fire risk assessment
- Premises risk assessment and safety management
- Accidents and incidents
- CDM and construction safety
- Contractor management
- Hazardous substances and infection control, including COSHH assessment
- Manual handling assessment
- Lone workers and personal safety
- Asbestos management
- Competent person
- Display screen equipment assessment
- Safety for senior managers
- Safety awareness for the Board
- Risk assessment
Risk assessment training is the course we are most often asked to deliver, and we have developed a unique approach. Essentially, the course is based round the organisation’s risk assessment systems, and is for those carrying out risk assessment. We train over three half day sessions, separated by a few weeks. We focus on the risk assessment work actually required of the particular manager, and working first in a group and then individually, coach managers through the planning and carrying out of their risk assessment work.
Follow up sessions allow errors or misunderstandings to be corrected, and particular risk assessment skills required to be imparted. The group feedback on the risk assessments discussed is very useful. This approach helps managers to develop both confidence and competence in risk assessment, and normally allows them space to complete their risk assessment obligations during the course.
